This & That …

A friendly reminder that Robert Munsch presentations begin next week. The students are working hard in class on their independent reading logs and guided author studies out of their booklets. At home they should be practicing their Book Talk presentations nightly if they are in Gr.2 and if they are in Gr.3 they should be reading their book in front of their parents or sibling to “read like Robert Munsch does.”

Parent support with props and costumes at home is greatly appreciated and be sure to check the front cover of your child’s Robert Munsch Booklet for their exact presentation dates. Some dates were changed for the children involved in the Chess tournament.

Yesterday, Hydro Ottawa was in and did a fascinating presentation on Electricity Safety. The guest speaker, Fern was fabulous and he demonstrated actual experiments, showed a slide show and had a table of artifacts.

Social Studies & Science:

Our Grade 2’s are studying Movement and Simple Machines. Next week they will have a quiz on Movement. What it is. What you can do to make something move and different types of movement. They will also have to look at a busy picture and use different position words to describe what is going on in the photo. Key movement terms are:motion, up, down, back, forth, beside, infront, right, left, over, under, turn, close, near, far, next, corner.

The Grade 3s are studying Early Settlers to Canada with a focus on comparing the Anishinabe and Wendat Tribes. They have just wrapped up their Radial Plate Weaving projects, a form of art particular to this era. This week they will focus on hunting and gathering.

A quick note on math we are studying the characteristics of 3D shapes. The later portion of this week we compared and contrasted the nets and skeletons of prisms and pyramids and looked closely at identifying edges, faces and vertices in other 3D shapes too.

Scholastic Book Orders:

Kindly remember that Scholastic does NOT accept cash. Cheques ONLY. Book orders for the month of March are due March 11th.

Have an awesome weekend!
