Star of the Week Schedule

COMING SOON  ….

I did a demo with the kids with me as the 'Star of the Week.'

I will do a demo for the kids with me as the ‘Star of the Week.’

The students are ‘a buzz’ with excitement that the New Year brings about our Star of the Week Presentations. It is a fun, exciting and of course educational way for students to learn about their peers. It also fosters more confidence in oral speaking. This assignment is evaluated for a grade value. Star of the week is simple. When it is your child’s week to present they bring into class a piece of bristol board or envelope of various pictures, photographs and magazine cut outs that appeal, represent or are special to the student. Examples include- a family photo, special picture of the child doing something amazing, pictures of favourite foods, pets or movies etc. Some children glue all of these cut outs and photos onto a bristol board or simply bring them to school in an envelope and I help them pin them to the Star of the Week bulletin board. Along with this, students are required to bring in 10 to 12 lines typed or written out about themselves on one page. This page will tell us their full name, where they were born, country of origin, family members, favourite foods, likes, dislikes and or special events that have occurred in their lives. Student will read and present this page to their classmates. On top of this, students will bring in a special item (like show and tell) in a brown or plastic bag so that no one can tell what it is. With this, they have a recipe or cue card with three clues on it for the class to guess what their special item is.  Star of the week is so much fun and is always presented first thing Monday mornings (unless there is a holiday). Students are encouraged to rehearse at home and work on a good voice level and eye contact with their audience. Students are also encouraged to show off a special talent if they feel comfortable sharing one. In the past I have has students bring in their violin and play, do a dance routine to music, make origami items, juggle, recite a poem or sing a song. The possibilities are endless! Here is a list as to when your child’s presentation date is ….. STAR OF THE WEEK PROJECTS COMMENCE IN January 2021!
