Carp Fair Fun!

We all had an amazing day at the Carp Fair on Friday! We saw an entertaining puppet show, a super dog show, fantastic artwork by students of all ages from different schools, old-fashioned farm equipment, a variety of farm animals…the list goes on! The weather was beautiful. A huge thank-you goes out to the 3 amazing parent volunteers who came with us on the trip! If you have any pictures from your group’s day please feel free to email them to me and I will tack them into this post. Enjoy some photos below of the group I chaperoned from our wonderful day at the Fair!

Another Thank You!

Thanks so very much for coming out to Meet the Teacher! It was an absolute pleasure seeing you all and meeting all the members of your family. Our class had a 100% turn out -that is fabulous! Today I went to photocopy the Friendship Directory for the student’s who’s parents wanted a copy, I noticed there were not many who had signed up, perhaps it was missed as it was a hustle and bustle sort of busy night. If you would like to have your info. shared (see picture below) for other parents to invite your child over for play dates or birthday parties please email me your info. and I will add you to the list. I will leave this opportunity open until 3pm tomorrow afternoon. I would also like to thank the parents who “picked an apple” off of the display board and sent in donations for our class today. You are very kind and as a class we are so very appreciative!

Terry Fox Would Thank You as I Do Too!

Our school’s Terry Fox run was a huge success! I would like to thank everyone for your donations to this worthy cause. The entire school (even the kindergartens) hit the field from 3:00 – 3:30 on Friday to join the run. I am so proud of everyone! Our class alone raised over $200, that is incredible! I thought it would be fun for our class to add a “special touch” to the event, so we made up a chant and the kiddos worked together outside a couple of recesses to make this beautiful display – I’m so proud of the way they all get along and spread kindness -you must be too!

Carp Fair Info

Thank-you so much for having your Carp Fair field trip permission forms signed and money paid so quickly! I  have them all in! Students must bring a lunch and some snacks and a water bottle with them as well to the Fair. They will not be allowed to buy food at the Fair due to allergies. As I mentioned before, we will be leaving W.E.J at 9:20am and loading the buses from the fair at 1:50pm sharp.

Parent Volunteers for the Carp Fair Field Trip

Thank-you to the parents who have volunteered to come with us to the Fair! We have six parent volunteers: William’s mom, Nandini’s mom, and Emaan’s dad.  Tomorrow, the day of the field trip, please meet us outside our classroom upstairs (Room 216) at 9:15am. (You will want to park before 9:00am in the parking lot as that is the time the morning busses arrive.) Sign in at the main office first. Please come up to my class after you sign in on Friday where you will receive the list of the students in your group and other important information. There will be space for you to ride the bus with us.

If you are a parent volunteer and you plan to stay at the Fair with your child after we leave at 1:45pm, please write me a note indicating that that is your plan.

All parents should please dress their child on Friday according to the weather forecast. If rain is forecast please make sure your child wears a rain jacket and rain boots.

Be on the look out for winners in our class in the school projects building as well as the School Scarecrow (see above picture) that Ms. Brown and I entered with the help from some students. Fingers crossed for many winners!

Meet The Teacher Night

You are invited to come to the school for Meet the Teacher this Thursday, September 26th (tomorrow!), from 4:30-6:00 pm. The purpose of this event is for you and your family to come to the school and have your child(ren) tour you through their school, their class and to introduce you to their teachers in an informal setting. Please drop by my classroom (Rm. 216) for a visit! Just a reminder that if you wish to speak to me about your child’s learning needs, we can certainly arrange for a separate meeting on another day. Teachers will not be available to have private meetings with parents during Meet the Teacher night.

Hope to see you and your family tomorrow!

Fun Family Activity!

Dear Families,

On Wednesday October 2nd W. Erskine Johnston PS  is celebrating walking and wheeling (and busing) to school as part of International Walk to School Month.

International Walk to School Month (IWALK) is an annual mass celebration of active transportation taking place around the world every October. Hundreds of Ontario schools participate in IWALK each year, with many holding their events on IWALK Day, the first Wednesday of October.

If you live within the Walk Zone, why not find some friends who live near-by, set a meeting place (parks are best) and walk to school together?  OSTA provides walking maps with best routes and locations of school crossing guards. You can also consider parking a few blocks from school and walking the last few minutes to school through the parks.

We hope you will join us in the celebration and create fun, healthy routines!

WOW – all forms are in and so too are parent volunteer paperwork. What a great community of parents we have this year!

A side note, the kiddos have been working super hard on their entries for the grade 3 school project division. We will not have time in class, nor do we have clay to do the following entry …

15. Create a tractor or piece of farm machinery made out of clay
Sponsorship: Myers Kanata Chev-Buick-GMC, John Stanton, Kanata

If you and your child are looking for some extra bonding time this weekend why not give it a go!

All entries must be brought to school by Tuesday morning before the morning bell. I will deliver it for judging to the fair office with the rest of the school’s submissions.

Have a great weekend, it should be beautiful!

Your Child’s Weekly Timetable

Here is your child’s timetable this year. Please make note of special classes such as outdoor and indoor physical education to dress appropriately; as well as our library period for when books should be returned for new ones. Also make note of lunch and recess times as good transitions for drop off and pick up for appointments.

Its going to be a great year!

Carp Fair Field Trip!

Image result for carp fair imageOn Friday, Sept. 27th, all classes in grades 3-4 from WEJ will board the busses and head towards the grassy fields of Carp for the WORLD’s BEST FAIR!! This year is the CARP FAIR‘s 156th anniversary, so it should be a great day at this amazing country event. This field trip ties into the social studies and science curriculum in the primary and junior grades and allows our city students to dive into the rural life and community! The cost of this trip is $4.00 for the students payable through your School Cash Online account (https://ocdsb.schoolcashonline.com). Payment is due by Tuesday, Sept. 24th. The permission forms are coming home today. Please fill in the second page and return by Sept. 24th. Thank-you. If you would like to volunteer for this field trip, please indicate your interest on your child’s permission form. I will take those interested who send their forms in first. I am hoping to have at least four parent volunteers come with us to the Fair on the 27th. There will be room for these parents to ride on the bus with us and admission will be free for them as well. The field trip busses to the Carp Fair will be leaving WEJ at 9:30am and will return to the school by 2:15pm. It should be a wonderful time at the Fair for all of us!
