Members of the WE club and our newly appointed student council will be collecting non-perishable items that will be displayed in front of the main office.

Here is a re-cap of some suggested food and non-food donations:

Baking items (e.g., flour, sugar, oil)

Large containers of juice (1L size)

Crackers

Canned fruit

Canned salmon and meats

Baby food and baby cereal

Toiletries (e.g., deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Kleenex, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products)

If you would like to make a monetary donation online, please follow the following link: https://ocdsb.schoolcashonline.com/

If you wish to donate or have already donated $20 or more, the Kanata Food Cupboard would be happy to issue you a tax receipt.

WEJ Spirit Day for United Way – Wear your Pajamas!

As our final round of fundraising for this year’s United Way Campaign at W. Erskine Johnston, we are encouraging students and staff to bring in a small coin donation and wear their pajamas this Friday. What a nice cozy and heart-warming way to end the school week! Mark your calendar please.

Data Management Test – Wednesday

I will not be sending home new Working with Words Spelling words this week nor a book worm body part. We will however still be tested on our words last week. Instead of new homework this week, students should continue to prepare their Extra, Extra Read All About it oral assignment due this Friday and for a data management math test this Wednesday. I encourage all students to click on the Nelson Math 3 link here and complete the following brief online practice tests for chapter 3:

Lesson 1: Venn Diagrams

Lesson 2: Collecting and Organizing Data

Lesson 3: Reading and Creating Pictographs

Lesson 4: Bar Graphs With Scales

Lesson 5: Communicate About Data

Grade 3 Under the Sea Data Analysis is a nice review too.

Cue Card Tower Challenge

The winning design! 70cm!

Winter Food Drive at WEJ Starts Monday

The Kanata Food Cupboard has been providing food assistance to Kanata residents in need since 1985. Currently, over 220 families receive food assistance from them each month. This works out to be approximately 476 adults and 371 children who are served on a monthly basis. In addition to regularly helping Kanata residents, they also provide Seasonal Programs for Easter, Back to School, Thanksgiving and for Christmas. The Kanata Food Cupboard is in the process of getting ready for their Christmas Program and it is anticipated that they will help close to 600 families this holiday season. The Kanata Food Cupboard is able to help these individuals and families only because of the generous support they receive from the community, including schools like WEJ PS.

Here is a list of specific requested food donations:

Rice
Baking items (e.g., flour, sugar, oil)
Large containers of juice (1L size)

Crackers

Canned fruit
Canned salmon and meats
Baby food and baby cereal
Toiletries (e.g., deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Kleenex,
toilet paper, feminine hygiene products)
All food and $monetary$ donations will be donated to the Kanata Food Cupboard.

The class that brings in the most donations will win a PIZZA party!

Our food drive will run from Monday, November 25th until Monday, December 9th .
Thank you in advance everyone for making a difference in our community!

Parent Teacher Interviews Tomorrow Night …

Image result for please knock images

Good chilly evening parents!

Just a quick note that I have back-to-back-to-back interviews tomorrow night. From 4:15 onward, I am fully booked. This being said, I know that your time is valuable and I respect you so much, so please DO NOT HESITATE to knock on the door when it is your scheduled block. It is easy to lose track of time when I am chatting away parents. Each interview slot is only 15 minutes long. In the past, I have breaks and can go over the time limit, but this will not be the case tomorrow night.

I am looking forward to touching base with all of you.

Have a lovely evening!

Please read …

image.png This month the teachers at WEJ are coming together to fundraise for this renowned community cause – United Way. We have organized a series of events for both staff, students and the parent community. On November 29th, there will be a ‘United Way Wear your PJ’s Day’. Students are encouraged to bring a small donation for this event to sport their pajamas. As well, some students will have an opportunity to ‘Pie their Prof ‘ all in good fun, but again for a very worthy cause.

This coming Thursday, from 3:45 to 7pm we will have two unique vendors here in our school lobby to sell SweetLegs Leggings and Silver Desire Jewellery. Both vendors are huge contributors and supporters of the United Way Campaign and will be donating a portion of their sales to the W. Erskine Johnston United Way Fund. What an exciting month of November!

Remembrance Day Reminder

For the Remembrance Day assembly in our school, all of the grade three students will be singing a song. Students are asked to wear white tops and dark bottoms for this performance. Unfortunately, we are not able to open an invitation to parents for this assembly due to limited space in the gym. Students are all also encouraged to wear a poppy for this assembly.  Below are the lyrics to the song we are singing. Feel free to work on the lyrics with your child.  Students have been practicing in class quite often with a piano accompanying them.

Imagine

Imagine there’s no heaven

It’s easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today… Aha-ah…

Imagine there’s no countries

It isn’t hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion, too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace… You…

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope someday you’ll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world… You…

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope someday you’ll join us

And the world… will be as one

(repeat)
