Please click on the link below to access information about the upcoming food drive involving WEJ students:This Friday, April 29th, WEJ will have our eighth spirit day for this school year. The theme is “Wear School Colours Day/WEJ Wear Day”. Our school colours are yellow and green!

Our Music Monday assembly will be at 9:30am on Monday, May 2 for the entire school. D.D. Jackson is set to give a 15-20 minute presentation and hopefully will be able to answer some music-related questions, too! He is presenting to us live from New York! He is an Emmy-winning musical performer!
On Friday, we filmed our “Blinding Lights” music video and Ms. Brown is hard at work editing it this weekend! It will be our contribution to the assembly, along with other classes who chose to take part. We will share it with you once it is done as we DO have all children in our class media approved paperwork! A HUGE thanks to all the parents who voluntarily sent their child in with “glow” accessories! We had SO much fun and the students took it VERY seriously -we are so proud of them. Here are just a few pictures to enjoy on this Sunny Sunday from Friday!
Also … please chat with your child if they would be interested in being a part of the WEJ Talent Show. Here are some details below …
The Annual WEJ Talent Show will take place in June this year!
We will be having our Social Studies unit test this Friday, April 22nd 2022!
Students can study their social studies duotang notes in preparation for this unit test on Early Settlers (Anishinabe, Wendat and Pioneer people). We have spent a few classes this week reviewing and preparing for the test in class. Please make sure your child returns his/her social studies duotang to school each day if it is brought home for review. We will mark their Pioneer Reading Card packages tonight and return to the duotang tomorrow for review purposes.
Additionally, our students experienced a fun-filled Virtual experience last Tuesday through the Pioneer Village at the MacSkimming Outdoor Education Center offered by the OCDSB! What a great way to complement and add to all that we have learned in the classroom about life as an early settler. Students witnessed a variety of activities throughout the lesson: learning about a variety of early settler chores, like tapping trees, carrying water, etc., using antique tools, and experiencing what it was like to be a student learning in a one-room schoolhouse!
This Wednesday (April 13th), we will be having a short Multiplication Test to WRAP UP our Multiplication Unit for this year!
Your child can prepare for the Multiplication Test by reviewing the key multiplication strategies that we’ve explored in class. These include:
Additionally, some key terms/concepts to review with your child before the test include:
Your child can also check out some of the multiplication math links that are on the right-hand side of this blog if they would like some multiplication activities to do before Wednesday.
Best of Luck Grade 3’s!!
On Tuesday, April 12th, and Wednesday, April 13th, W.E.J is having Photo Day(s)! A photographer from Earl Havlin Photography is coming to W. Erskine Johnston to take this year’s school photos.
Our class photos are scheduled to be taken on Wednesday, April 13th, at 12:05pm. There will be no group photos taken this year. For best results, dress your best in bright colours and try to avoid white or black.
Additionally, this year the photo proofs will be provided to you digitally! The instructions on how you will be able to access your child’s photos are included in the flyer below.
This week, we will be starting a new unit on multiplication. Students will be exploring a variety of strategies to solve multiplication problems (e.g., skip counting on number lines, using repeated addition (e.g., 3 x 5 is the same as 5 + 5 + 5), grouping items into equal groups, using arrays, etc.). There will be Number Rock Songs, collaborative learning opportunities and MAD MINUTES given at random and a score recorded to move up the Multiplication Ladder in the classroom. Please try to find some time to work on drilling your child at home with these number facts. Understanding the different strategies to solve multiplication problems, as well as memorizing the basic math facts, are both very important for the grade 3 student and are stated in the Ontario Curriculum. Throughout this unit, your child is also encouraged to check out some of the multiplication math links on the right-hand side of this blog. There are several multiplication games that your child can play to help increase the speed of recall of the basic multiplication facts and have fun doing it at the same time! Arcademic Skill Builders is a particularly good site! In addition, you and your child may also do some activities at home such as:
