Dear Parents/Guardians,
Schools across Canada are hosting Right To Play’s signature event called Play Your Part. WEJ is taking part in this Play Day on Friday, June 14th. Students in grades 3-6 will be participating in this event which involves playing educational games that promote social justice, building character, giving back, and being active.
Right To Play is a global organization that uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children and youth to overcome the effects of poverty, conflict, and disease in disadvantaged communities. It was founded in 2000 by Johann Olav Koss, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and social entrepreneur. Through sports and games, we help children build essential life skills and better futures, while driving social change in their communities with lasting impact. Our educational based sport and play programs reach more than 1 million children on a weekly basis.
Games will occur outside in a safe, play area at the school. Educators will be involved through empowering youth to be leaders and run the games in separate stations. As a result of these games, participants will learn a range of issues that all children face on both a local and global level, from the effects of bullying to the difference between positive and negative peer pressure, to the simplicity of separating wants from needs.
Students can also celebrate their right to play by pre-ordering (for $2.00) an ice cold jumbo freezie that they will receive on the 14th, on Play Your Part Day! And what’s even better is that all the money raised by the freezie sale will also go to the Right to Play charity!
